Nice form for the koi! :) I always have trouble with the eyes of fish, they end up looking a little too unreal because it's hard to get the shading right there, but the eyes of your koi look good :D

Yeah the eyes on the koi are pretty difficult to do, right now I'm just winging it! Hehe! I need to practice more :)

As good as, if not better than you described it. I like the Koi's little flippers, they almost resemble the blossom pedals :D

His little happy hands! I read in a guide by a chinese sumi-painter that the fins of the koi are the same as the wings of a bird, and should always show his mood.
So he's a happy koi :D

Hiroshige's Koi have sharper more angry fins, your fins are definatly round and happy. I picked up a wee book today that teaches some sumi-e styles, and a littlebit of history too. so far soooo good :D

Is that the book that was in Bradbury? I was looking at it last week :D Or was in another book? :)
blueheronarts on youtube has some awesome tutorials (including how to mount paintings!), and another guy whose name I forgot...just do a search for sumi-e :)

Its called 'The Tao of Sketching' by Qu Lei Lei. He does sumi-e and watercolours of most things, and all sizes on all sorts of papers. I just liked it because it gives a little bit of history aswell.
